FritzCustomEpoxy Guide to Epoxy Garage Floors
A garage floor coating is a different product from table-top resin. Floor systems are formulated to bond to concrete and resist hot tires, oil, road salt and dropped tools.
Solid Color
A clean, uniform finish in gray, tan or any custom tint. Practical and easy to touch up.
Flake Broadcast
Vinyl chips scattered into the wet base coat hide dust and imperfections and add texture for grip.
Metallic
Metallic pigments are manipulated while wet to create swirls and depth, ideal for showrooms and basements.
Preparation makes or breaks a floor. Concrete should be diamond-ground to open its pores, cracks repaired, and moisture tested before coating. Epoxy applied over sealed, dusty or damp concrete is likely to peel.
FritzCustomEpoxy Care Guide for Resin Tables & Countertops
Do
- Wipe spills with a soft cloth and mild dish soap with warm water.
- Use coasters, placemats and trivets under hot dishes.
- Use cutting boards. Epoxy is hard but knives will scratch it.
- Buff light scratches out with a fine polishing compound.
Avoid
- Hot pans placed straight on the surface.
- Abrasive pads, scouring powders and harsh solvents like acetone.
- Long periods in direct sunlight, which can cause yellowing.
- Dragging heavy, rough-bottomed objects across the top.
FritzCustomEpoxy Resin Glossary
- Pot life
- How long mixed epoxy stays workable in the cup before it thickens.
- Exotherm
- The heat released as epoxy cures. Too much heat in a thick pour causes cracks, yellowing and bubbles.
- Deep pour
- A slow-curing, low-viscosity resin designed for thick castings like river tables.
- Flood coat
- A thin, self-levelling layer of table-top epoxy poured over a surface.
- Seal coat
- A thin first coat that seals porous wood or concrete to prevent bubbles.
- Amine blush
- A waxy film that can form on curing epoxy in humid conditions; wash it off before recoating.
- Full cure
- The point where epoxy reaches its final hardness, usually several days after pouring.
FritzCustomEpoxy Frequently Asked Questions
How long does epoxy take to cure?
Most table-top epoxies are dry to the touch in about 24 hours and reach full cure in around 7 days. Deep-pour resins cure more slowly. Always follow the times on the product label.
Is epoxy heat resistant?
Cured epoxy tolerates warm mugs and plates, but hot pans and pots can soften or mark it. Use trivets and coasters to protect the surface.
Why did my epoxy turn yellow?
Ultraviolet light and heat cause most epoxies to yellow over time. Choosing a resin with UV stabilizers and keeping pieces out of direct sunlight slows this down.
Why is my epoxy still sticky?
Sticky epoxy usually means it was measured off-ratio, under-mixed or cured in a room that was too cold. Scrape off the soft resin and re-pour with careful measuring and mixing.
